The thing

That’s the thing about your 20s,
that all those songs and movies and books
try to portray
but never quite get just right
The utter agony of
Not knowing who you are
and feeling like
You can’t breath from the weight
of your own expectations
Not realizing that maybe life
isn’t about finally knowing
who we are
But constantly transforming into
the people we want to be
from out of our own ashes
All I know is
I am not the sum of my parts
And yet my math
never seems to add up.
